HumeSD2013SHMonday

Monday recap....

We were so thankful that the trip Sunday was uneventful. It was so nice to have a bus that was reliable and very comfortable :-) the kids immediately started connecting with each other and the trip was good! We arrived in plenty of time to get checked in and then go to dinner. After that, the opener! This years theme of Phoenix Dark is awesome! Phoenix Dark is a character representing Christ on the night he was betrayed and an ensuing investigation into why it happened. Fact #1 "This guy is def not human" was the main point.

Following breakfast on Monday morning we headed to our first morning chapel which also included the first time that we would get to worship with 330 Plan. Our morning speaker, Jay Johnson started driving home the fact that Jesus is a person that needs to be dealt with. Fact #2 "This guy is def human" was brought home as we looked at the human Characteristics of Christ.

Then onto Recreation. Our Youth group is spread across a half-dozen teams so getting pictures and videos of everyone is a challenge, but one that I'm enjoying being up to! With games like Kajabi  cancan, tug-of-war, and super belly bumpers, you know this is going to be a great week of recreation!

Following recreation was another amazing meal and then an afternoon of free time. Students did everything from clime rock walls, to go to the beach and enjoy the surf or just hang out.

Another meal before evening Chapel and then we got to hear our amazing speaker Josh once again tell Christ's stories through a series of stories of his own. He is really impacting the students with his unique gift of storytelling. Fact 3 "This guy is too important to be ignored" was the focus. As critical thinkers, we have to do something with the person of Christ.

A little bit of evening free time followed. While some were just chatting others playing Hakki sack and still others performing during an open mic session. I was a very proud dad as my son was the final act of the evening, performing  "By your side" by 10th Ave., North. The crowd went nuts when he finished and It was a pretty sweet moment.

All in all, it was a great first full day of camp to begin what has already started out to be a life-changing week for so many that came to HumeSD this year.
