"Is this Heaven?" "No, it's Iowa"
It's a scene from one of my favorite baseball movies, Field of Dreams. An old baseball player (Shoeless Joe Jackson) is given a chance to come back and play the game he loves. It all seems perfect, and he asks the question...
And as "perfect" as the situation was for Shoeless Joe, the answer provided shows that Heaven is even better...
I guess that's the way I felt after an amazing week at Hume/SD2014.
We saw many students give their lives to Christ, many more get their lives refocused on living for God, and it was all capped by taking 102 people down to Mission Beach and celebrating with 7 students getting baptized in the ocean! What a blessing it is each year to baptize "my kids" in the youth group who are ready to make that decision, and this year I was also able to baptize my "actual" kid! So proud of Caleb, and all of them, for making a public declaration of their Christian Faith :)
I am so thankful that for over 25 years I've been blessed to work with youth, and be a part of what God is doing, and how he's moving in the lives of so many of them. There are many times throughout the year, and over the course of many years, that I believe I'm given just a glimpse of what Heaven is going to be like.
Celebrating with hundreds of people singing, watching students go all out during rec, having deep discussions, laughing, crying, dancing in a 4th of July parade (held on the 3rd) was all WORSHIP. To be in a state of Worship through all of those activities, and so many more...might make one ask...
Was this Heaven?
No, it's Hume/SD2014
